Confirmation

sealed with the spirit

Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism and more perfectly binds us to the Church. Through the anointing with sacred chrism and the words “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit,” the bishop (or a priest he designates) confers a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This sacrament strengthens us with the gifts of the Spirit—wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord—so that we can live and witness our faith more boldly in word and deed. It is not a graduation from the Church but a commissioning for mission.

In our Family of Parishes, Confirmation is typically celebrated in seventh or eighth grade after a period of preparation. We welcome young people and their families into this important step of Christian initiation. To enroll your child in sacramental preparation, please contact our Director of Religious Education, Tanya Lee, at [email protected].
