Hope in the resurrection

The Catholic funeral rites express our faith in the resurrection and offer comfort and hope to those who mourn.

The Order of Christian Funerals ordinarily includes three principal parts: the Vigil (a time of prayer, Scripture, and support for the family, often at the funeral home), the Funeral Liturgy (usually a Mass of Christian Burial in the church, centered on the Eucharist), and the Rite of Committal at the cemetery. Through these rites the Church prays for the deceased and entrusts them to God’s merciful love.
